What is Espresso?
It has a very small amount of liquid per serving (1oz or 30ml).
How much caffeine is in a Espresso Shot?
The
amount of caffeine in a single shot of espresso also depends on what kind of
bean, roasting and amount of bean used while brewing.
The standard shot of espresso has
roughly 30-50mg of caffeine, according to the National Coffee
Association (NCA).
Espresso Shot size
The
standard size of a Espresso shot glass is 1oz or 30 ml.
But,
If we serve only 15ml of Espresso then it becomes Ristretto(Half Shot Of Espresso).
If we serve 60ml of Espresso then it becomes Doppio(Double Shot Of Espresso).
How to make Espresso?
Espresso is made after passing nearly boiling water through roasted and finely ground Coffee with a pressure of 9 to 10 bars on the Espresso machine.
Steps to follow :
1.
Take the porta filter wipe any water particles to make it dry.
2.
Turn on the grinder and grind 8 to 10 gm of roasted Coffee beans.
3.
Distribute and Tamp the Coffee evenly.
4.
Put the Porta filter back into the group head.
5.
Turn on the machine and let it brew.
6.
If all the fundamentals like grind size, tamping pressure and Espresso
machine pressure are correct then 30ml Espresso should brew within 20 to 30
seconds of time.
Note
: There are other methods of brewing Espresso too and it’s not in any way the
only correct way.
We
can also use the 1:2 ratio method to brew Espresso and this is what I
personally like.
1:2 means that for every gm of Coffee used we brew 2 times liquid.
Example : If I used 16gm Coffee then I will brew double of 16 that is 32gm of
liquid from the machine within 20 to 30 seconds.
As
a Barista you should experiment around and find what’s best for the type of
Coffee you use.
